The Tea Shop
Gallery
As you will be aware, our group has been
successful in arranging the exclusive use of
the Tea Shop at Penny Farm in Blackpool for
the display and sale of art work This venue is
open to all SEA members and is a light and
airy space where our work can be attractively
presented on approximately 80 feet of wall
space. The ILPH, who own Penny Farm are
keen for us to make a go of this venture,
and to see something happening, as they
will benefit from a 10% commission on
sales. We have a free hand in the arrange-
ment of work and its content, with the only
restriction being that the work must be of an
equestrian theme. (No problems there!) The
ILPH have agreed to cover our work on their
insurance, requiring only a list of the pieces
on display and their value, which I will
update regularly as the works change.
We expect that work which will be most
appropriate for the tea shop will be small to
medium sized pieces of moderate value, pos-
sibly up to £500, and a maximum size
around 30” x 20” framed, although at this
stage we are not stipulating exactly, as we
want to see how things develop. Larger,
and more expensive work can be submitted
for our group exhibition at Easter 2004.
Following a very recent meeting at Penny
Farm between your RGO’s and Lesley
Southwood, Company Trading Manager of
the ILPH, this opportunity [managed by Julie
Nash RGO/Treasurer] has now expanded to
include the following:
* We now have 9 paintings which take up
less than a quarter of the available wall
space. Just to remind you; artwork can
be in any medium [oil, watercolour,
gouache, acrylic, pencil, pastel and char-
coal or even computer generated].
* Prints of SEA member’s artwork can now
be sold by the Gift shop. Due to short-
age of space in the shop these will be
exhibited in the lecture room above the
Information Centre at Penny Farm and
members of the public will be escorted
upstairs to view on request. Prints can
only be displayed if you have artwork for
sale in the Tea Shop. We plan to buy a
floor standing art browser...either new or
second hand to display works of A5, A4,
A3 and possibly A4 size. Does anyone
know where we can buy one at a rea-
sonable price.
* Every three months Anne Corless will
compile a sheet of member’s artwork
that is for sale, to send down to Lesley
Southwood at ILPH Headquarters in
Norfolk. In order to be included on the
list photographs or transparencies of the
work must be sent to Anne. Leslie will
then choose pieces of artwork that she
Movement was the theme on
April’s Study Day
In April the Aintree Group ran their first study day on the theme of the move-
ment and paces of the horse. There was a demonstration by Nikki Moore (pic-
tured above) on the general paces of the horse. Members could observe the
walk, trot and canter by a very obliging pony provided by ILPH. The later sessions
were taken up with observation and drawing of the horses and ponies. A gener-
al meeting was held after lunch where members decided upon the next ventures
for the group.
