Our first workshop
of this year will be at a small Arabian stud near Oundle, just a few miles
west of Peterborough. Gadebrook Arabian Stud breeds high class Crabbet
Arabians which the owner, Anne Brown, says are not intended to be
ornaments, but good working horses. The list of horses that she has bred
includes:
- Magic Domino, who was exported to Canada where
he became the only Arabian stallion to have won the Sporthorse Supreme
National Championship, not to mention gain Legion of Honour Dressage
status in the USA.
- Hachim raced in the UK before being sold to Abu
Dhabi. He won the 2002 Bahrain Endurance Race, ridden by Sheik Hazza,
and he also represented Abu Dhabi at the World Equestrian Games.
- Croix de Guerre represented Great Britain at the 2003
World Endurance Championships, gaining 8th place with the British
team.
Gadebrook horses are competing in dressage, endurance,
show jumping, eventing and racing, and Anne's mares are ridden regularly.
She hopes that there will be 2 foals for us to paint, as well as the
resident mares.
If you want to find out more about the stud you can look

Dick Barton has kindly agreed to be our tutor again. It
will be a bit too far to retire to my house for Saturday evening, so we
shall have a social get-together and meal at the Montagu Arms in Barnwell
(about 10 minutes up the road from Gadebrook). Lisa Simmons, who is one of
our group members, is the landlady of the Montagu Arms, and she will be
sending me menus for the evening, and will also be providing our lunches.
Many thanks Lisa! It would be a great help to Lisa if she knows the
numbers expected well in advance, so please reply (with your cheque) by
1st May! The cost of the workshop will be £20 per day, including lunch,
with the evening meal extra. You will find a booking form, map and B&B
info at the end of the newsletter below.
