2006 PROGRAMME

I’ve just returned home from little horse heaven (!!!!!!), and just had to begin my yearly letter to you!! If you have ever been a child, loved a teddy, remembered your first ride or even put your own child on board a pony, then your heart and mind will be thrilled to see the miniature Shetland ponies and their foals which I have just been visiting!!

Fri 9 Jun

For our first workshop outdoors, Jill Evans and her daughter are delighted to welcome us to their home at Blenheim Shetland Pony Stud, Postcombe, Oxford, OX9 7X on Friday 9th June 2006. They have two stallions, Tonto and Maybe, and 19 mares, 17 of whom are foaling this summer. All of these gorgeous creatures are impeccably well behaved, being handled a much as possible, therefore we are at no risk of having fingers etc. bitten!!! Memories of a painting at the London exhibition of a Shetland, entitled “Weapon of Mass Destruction”…..Anyway, their website is www.shetland-pony.com/blenheim, and is worth a visit.

Thu 15 Jun

Six days afterwards, on Thursday 15th June 2006, we have been given kind permission by Alathea Creighton to visit her and her three Andalucians at Fourways Cottage, Hemel Hempstead Road, Dagnall, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 1QR. Many thanks go to Mia Sarosi for the introduction, having ridden the stallion Garabato for Alathea in Spain some years ago, from where both owner and horses have moved to live in England.

Both of the above workshops will contain time to study at close quarters the anatomy of two very different creatures, plus time to have an overview of their habits and habitat. Needless to say, the Shetlands will be very occupied nursing their foals, but Alathea will be riding her lovely Andalucians and talking to us about her in depth knowledge of the breed. There are pubs close by for lunch if required!! Start time 10.00am’ish, finishing by 4.00pm.

It is my hope that we will be able to visit the King’s Troop in North London during the first two weeks of September, and at the moment I am in negotiations with a contact. We just have to keep our fingers crossed that the in-coming Commanding Officer will respond favourably to my charms!!!!

Now, for those who have not been to the studio for the winter life-drawing workshops, I must say that as much as I enjoy them, the greater pleasure for me is to see how artists change, grow, and move on in their art, and I appreciate their tenacity. If anyone would like to come next winter, just give me a call to see what it’s all about. We had six very enjoyable days, even if, on one occasion, Damian’s singing and guitar playing were a touch, shall we call it, “enthusiastic”???!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call soon to book in for any of these dates, including your interest in the King’s Troop.

Meanwhile I wish you well, and good work, not to win prizes, nor fame, but to be true to yourself, the artist within, and honour your roots by remembering just why you wanted to paint horses.
