Having grown up in the countryside surrounded by horses and animals, Clare started sketching at a young age. Having studied art at school, she then went on to work in dressage, showing and point to point yards before discovering the racing world up in Newmarket. Clare worked at different pre-training yards before moving on to stud work, which has enabled her to study horses of all different ages. Her love of thoroughbreds is evident in the artwork she now produces

Clare mainly works in pastel and graphite but is happy to work in other mediums if required for commissions. When working on commissions, she likes to find out as much as she can about the animal to accurately portray its specific character and personality. When working on other art projects, she starts by determining what she wants to portray in the picture. This could be the cheekiness of a foal, the power and strength of a stallion or the way the light is reflected in an animal’s coat. This forms the basis of her painting
