Julian Stanley

Biography

Julian Stanley

“Having drawn and painted all my life and coming from a farming background, I had readily available models of cows, calves and horses on my doorstep. Having studied agriculture after school, my artistic leanings eventually took me to art college and then on to two-and-a-half years with a master carver in High Wycombe. This ultimately led me to setting up my carving, furniture and sculpture business.

“For a long time I have had a desire to develop my equestrian art, which has sprung from a love of horses, especially racing. I have ridden most of my life and spent probably the best part of 25 years in my spare time riding out for numerous racing yards, mainly National Hunt and friends’ point-to-pointers, and for one season I raced my own pointer.

“I find the scope with these animals complements my interest in painting landscapes and I now include horses in them, and enjoy depicting the hugely colourful racing scene.”
