Horse in Art 2016 – Plein Air painting/drawing event

Use Newmarket as your canvas and enter the SEA Plein Air one-day-only drawing event – Monday November 21, 2016.

In celebration of the Newmarket’s 350 years of heritage and affiliation with British horseracing and the SEA’s first exhibition at the all-new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art you have the chance to exhibit a piece of your own original artwork at the Private View evening of the Horse in Art 2016 Annual Open Exhibition.

THE PRIZE: is to have your original work framed and exhibited in the SEA Horse in Art exhibition 2016 until December 4.

plein-air_painting-bodey-1_450HOW? Collect your artist’s board (fees apply) and set off in to and around Newmarket to capture your own interpretation of what the horse means to the town of Newmarket. By the end of the day your work could be hanging at the Private View in Palace House Mews at the opening day of the SEA’s Horse in Art 2016 Annual Open Exhibition.

The competition is open to all – members of the public, amateur and established artists alike. To enter simply go to Palace House Mews and pay your £10 entry fee, collect your board and set off to let your creativity take over. Details and a copy of the rules are available on the website.

WHEN? Register at Palace House Mews at 10am on Monday November 21. Entries must be returned for judging by 4pm (the Palace House museum and cafe is open until 5pm). All entrants are invited to return for the opening of the Horse in Art Private View at 6pm to discover if theirs is the winning picture and hung in the gallery. (All entrants other than the winner may take their pictures away at 6pm.)

  • Complete a registration form
  • Please ask for a copy of the Rules on registration or download a copy here

  • Suggested venues include the National Heritage Centre, the Gallops, Newmarket High Street (Hyperion Statue), the National Stud and local landmarks. Please always be mindful of your surroundings and use common sense in asking permission where necessary.
