Born in Lancashire in 1962, Alison first studied at Burnley College School of Art. She then spent four years studying Life Painting at the Slade School of Fine Art, London
-
For some years after leaving the Slade, and following a long tradition in English painting, Alison worked as a freelance Scenic Artist in the theatre, painting scenery for a wide range of productions from pantomime to opera.
-
During this period she also studied advanced scene painting techniques at the Lester Polakov Studio, New York. The understanding which she gained from her theatre experience of how colour and light can be used to bring out the most telling moment of a scene has influenced many of her paintings.
-
She remains committed to the survival of the practice of teaching formal Life Drawing (now sadly in decline) to art students, and for some years she worked as a part-time specialist lecturer in the subject. Despite her painting commitments, she still makes time to teach the occasional advanced life class.
-
Alison's rigorous attention to detail in technical as well as artistic matters is evident when her paintings are closely examined; they are painted on linen canvases prepared by the painter herself using traditional methods and materials of the highest quality.
-
Alison began to paint horses some years ago. The majority of her work involves horses, especially racehorses, but she does undertake commissions on a variety of subjects. The precise structural drawing and exacting technical standards that characterise her work make her particularly in demand for portrait commissions.

Limited edition prints are available of some of Alison's paintings: please see her own website for details
