• David Barry Smith S.E.A was born at the Goatland Hunt Kennels in 1948, where his father was kennel huntsman, and his love of horses and hounds is a theme that runs through his paintings.
  

• He was elected to full membership of the SEA in 1998 and has exhibited every year at both their London and Yorkshire exhibitions. He is a master of acrylics, achieving a subtlety in that medium which is exceptional. In the 1997 exhibition he won the Daley-Rowney Prize for the best acrlylic painting, and in 2004 the Hollyland Trophy for the best coloured or spotted picture.
  

• He has exhibited for a number of years in Malton, and the Lake District, as well as solo exhibitions at Lealholm and joint shows in the north of England.
