Born in Norfolk, the land of Edward Seago, Alfred Munnings and Rural country life, Russ Calver started drawing at an early age. He now specialises in commissioned portraits of Animals and People ,in pastels,oils and acrylics.He also paints Landscapes and Wildlife.

His many patrons include the Duke and Duchess of Bedford ,Lady Skeet, Mr. Colin McNicholas and William Fox-Pitt, and his work hangs in private collections in the United States and Europe

Following National Service, he attended a number of Art Schools ,including the Sir John Cass in London, and in 1976 started an Art Club in Luton ,which still flourishes today

His interest in painting Horses came about 25 years ago after a client ,for whom he had painted her pet Cavalier King Charles,suggested that she introduce him to her boss. Naively he declined, stating that Horses were’ very difficult to paint’ ! (Her boss turned out to be Henry Cecil ! ). But it sparked a thought and he persevered to now enjoy commissions of Polo Ponies,Shire Horses and animals of the New Forest, close to where he now lives, in Lymington, Hampshire
