  • Rosalind is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and teacher of Art and Design at Prestwick Academy for 35 years, helping senior pupils compile folios for art college entry. She is an Ayrshire artist, specialising in animal portraits, particularly horses. She regularly demonstrates/takes workshops at art clubs throughout the West of Scotland, and also produces individual greetings cards. The words below are from Rosalind:
  • "Horses are my passion. I have three of my own at present, two of whom I bred myself. My first mare, Star Poem, was an ex-sprinter and I retrained her as an eventer, successfully competing throughout the West of Scotland (I once beat Mark Phillips!). I still own her daughter and grand-daughter. They are my models. I enjoy portraying action and my 2 most successful series of paintings are: horses rolling in sand, and racehorses galloping front-on. I paint these either in oils or watercolours, concentrating on the movement using loose, direct brushwork to enhance the feeling of energy.
  • "Twice a year, I visit the Isle of Islay, off the West coast of Scotland, with my partner, John, who paints landscapes. The light is extraordinary and I record images of sheep, cattle, and ponies for future use back in my studio. The backgrounds of peaty hillsides and rugged terrain make a colourful contrast to the somewhat boring, green fields of Ayrshire where I normally paint.
  • "I undertake varied commission work, usually in oils or pastel, from studies to full portraits and my work is in collections throughout the UK as well as in the US, Jordan, Australia, New Zealand and France
  • "My awards include: Winner of several awards at the SAA, including Best Professional category winner, International artist of the year, 1998 & 2000. Daler-Rowney award, 2003, Westminster gallery, London, at the Society of Women Artists annual exhibition.
  • "I currently have an entry in Who’s Who in Art, and have featured in several publications including International Horse.
