Steve was born into a poor working class family in Hackney East London 1953, moving to Stevenage, Hertfordshire at 5 years old. In his Father's words "In a search of a better life".
-
Demonstrating reasonable talent at school, he was offered a place at Art College at 16 but the lure of £8.00 per week as an apprentice electronics engineer and a shiny Motorbike in a local shop window proved too great.
-
Steve has had no formal art training but has continued to occasionally paint and draw, normally at the request of a friend or family member and for a short period was successfully selling Watercolours on a Freeserve Auction Site.
-
Following the death of his Father in January 2006, Steve decided to plan his way out of a successful career in Computing with the aim of learning his trade as a full time artist and by 2008 will have severed all ties with the IT industry.
-
His first encounters with horses were in less than ideal circumstances. He would visit his cousin at work, a Butcher at a local Slaughterhouse where old, sick or unwanted horses were sent for slaughter. This has left him with a profound respect for these animals.
-
Bizarrely, on the same site was a Riding School and although not being able to afford lessons would spend many happy hours helping out there. Just watching the horses and ponies and being content in their company.
-
He and his wife Stephanie have owned Horses and Ponies on an off for 30 years and currently have a Hanoverian (Archie) and a Welsh Section D (Tyler). These two are currently providing more that enough inspiration for his work.
-
Steve still competes locally at unaffiliated Showjumping, and One Day Events.
-
He is currently "experimenting" with Acrylic on Canvas and displays some of his work on his website
